Chop, Chop

I wish that the much-vaunted Post Wedding Chop could, in my case, become a Pre-Wedding Chop.  I mean, yes, I have been growing my hair out for almost a year so that it will be conducive to perfect wedding day hair.  But right now?  I hate every inch of it that extends past the tops of my shoulders.

See, I am not, nor was I ever meant to be, a long-hair kinda girl.  In fifth grade, my hair was halfway down my back, and I used to get golf ball -sized knots at the base of my head. The long hair was a gigantic pain in the ass, so one day my mom took me to the salon and we had it all cut off.  I remember sitting in the chair, telling the stylist to take it up to my shoulders; she was horrified, as was the lady sitting in the next chair over--"but your hair's so pretty. You shouldn't cut it off," they said.  Yeah, but you don't have to live with it, I thought--chop, chop.

Up until a few years ago, my hair stayed varying degrees of short, usually somewhere below my jaw, but no more than an inch below my shoulder (and that was pushing it).

Like so:

But my hair isn't short anymore:

My main problem is that my hair is monstrously thick--I have way too much of it. Thickness plus length equals an uncooperative mane, so I usually don't even bother trying to do anything with it. My hair goes back into a bun or into a ponytail and I call it a day.  Every time I get a haircut--even if it's only a trim--it looks like some large, furry animal died underneath my chair.

Now, in a week I'm getting a trim (should have happened four months ago...), and it's going to take all my willpower to tell Bob to take an inch or so off, so that only the damaged ends are gone.  In my head I know that I need to keep the length for styling options, but then I find myself cruising Google images and finding things like this:

With stunning hairdo's like that, I'm sorely tempted to chop it all off. I have given more than a little thought to being a short-haired bride.

*sigh* Still, I'm not going to cut my hair--I'll deal with it until the wedding.  But you can bet your boots that the day after Mr. Goodlaff and I get married it will be hippity hop to the barbershop and all the extra length will be gone, just in time for summer!

I can't wait!

Did you ever think about doing a Pre-Wedding Chop?
