Our Ship's Come In

Something very important and very exciting happened last week: Mr. Goodlaff and I put down a deposit on our Honeymoon! I wish I could properly convey how massively excited I am for our trip, but there just aren't enough exclamation points in the world to do the job.

What, you may ask, are we doing?

Well, this fall, about 4-5 months after our wedding, Mr. Goodlaff and I will be taking in the sights on a Mediterranean cruise. Spain,  France, and Italy are on our itinerary, and we are also hoping to squeeze in a few days in London (fabulous, old churches for Mr. Goodlaff and dead writers (Shakespeare, Austen, Byron, Keats, Eliot, Bronte!) for me).

Our cruise will last 9 days, our room will have a balcony, and we will get no sleep because we will spend every waking moment in port seeing the sights in Barcelona, Marseilles, Rome, and so many other fabulous cities.

So, why are we waiting until the fall to honeymoon? A few reasons--money and timing being two of the main advantages.  By waiting a few months to go on our real honeymoon (we are taking a mini moon the week after our wedding, but that's for another post), we have the chance to save up money for the big trip and spread out the big expenses over a range of months, instead of having to clean our bank accounts out all at once. Also, our Mediterranean cruise falls at the end of the busy season, so we are getting a killer rate, cooler weather, and fewer crowds.

It will be great to have a little time to decompress after the wedding and not have to immediately jump on a plane for a 15 hour ride, plus this way the Goodlaffs can be Greedy Gretchens and technically have two honeymoons: a mini moon and an exotic honeymoon.  Too much of a good thing, you say? No way!

Did you  put off your honeymoon for a little while, or did you go right after your wedding?
